Toyota Avalon (XX50) 2019-2022 Service & Repair Manual: Calibration

CALIBRATION

DESCRIPTION

(a) After replacing any VSC related components or performing wheel alignment adjustment, clear and read the sensor calibration data.

Refer to the table below and then perform the necessary operation according to the part to be replaced in order to perform calibration.

NOTICE:

Yaw rate and acceleration sensor zero point calibration cannot be performed again until the data stored during zero point calibration has been cleared. After replacing the yaw rate and acceleration sensor (airbag ECU assembly), perform yaw rate and acceleration sensor zero point calibration after clearing data stored during previous zero point calibration.

Part to be Replaced / Operation

Necessary Operation

  • Skid control ECU (Brake booster with master cylinder assembly)
  • Yaw rate and acceleration sensor (Airbag ECU assembly)
  1. Clear zero point calibration data.
  2. Perform yaw rate and acceleration sensor zero point calibration.

Wheel alignment adjustment

  1. Clear zero point calibration data.
  2. Perform yaw rate and acceleration sensor zero point calibration.

OBTAIN ZERO POINT OF YAW RATE AND ACCELERATION SENSOR

NOTICE:

  • After replacing the skid control ECU (brake booster with master cylinder assembly) or yaw rate and acceleration sensor (airbag ECU assembly), perform yaw rate and acceleration sensor zero point calibration after clearing previously learned data.
  • While obtaining the zero point, keep the vehicle stationary and do not vibrate, tilt, move, or shake it.
  • Be sure to perform this procedure on a level surface (with an inclination of less than 0.25 degrees).
  • While obtaining the zero point, make sure the tire pressure is as specified and the vehicle is in full contact with the ground (not lifted up or loaded).

HINT:

  • After replacing the skid control ECU (brake booster with master cylinder assembly), brake pedal stroke sensor assembly, brake pedal or brake actuator assembly, yaw rate and acceleration sensor zero point calibration is automatically performed during the linear solenoid valve offset learning, ABS holding solenoid valve learning, brake pedal stroke sensor assembly zero point calibration or system information memorization.
  • When entering Test Mode, the skid control ECU (brake booster with master cylinder assembly) communicates with the driving support ECU assembly to judge whether the vehicle is equipped with the pre-collision system. Therefore, do not exit Test Mode within 5 seconds of entering Test Mode.

(a) Clear the zero point calibration data.

(1) Turn the power switch off.

(2) Check that the steering wheel is centered.

(3) Check that the shift lever is in P.

NOTICE:

When attempting to clear the data stored during zero point calibration with the shift lever not in P, the data stored during zero point calibration may not be cleared successfully.

(4) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(5) Turn the power switch on (IG).

(6) Turn the Techstream on.

(7) Select the skid control ECU (brake booster with master cylinder assembly) to clear the zero point calibration data using the Techstream. Enter the following menus: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRAC / Utility / Reset Memory.

Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC > Utility

Tester Display

Reset Memory

NOTICE:

Make sure to perform linear solenoid valve offset learning, ABS holding solenoid valve learning, brake pedal stroke sensor assembly zero point calibration and system information memorization after performing "Reset Memory" as the data stored during linear solenoid valve offset learning, ABS holding solenoid valve learning, brake pedal stroke sensor assembly zero point calibration and system information memorization is cleared.

(8) Turn the power switch off.

NOTICE:

If the power switch is turned on (IG) for more than 15 seconds with the shift lever in P after the zero point of the yaw rate and acceleration sensor has been cleared, only the zero point of the yaw rate sensor will be stored. If the vehicle is driven under these conditions, the skid control ECU (brake booster with master cylinder assembly) will store the zero point calibration for the acceleration sensor as not being completed. The skid control ECU (brake booster with master cylinder assembly) will then also indicate this as a malfunction of the VSC system using the indicator light.

(b) Perform zero point calibration of the yaw rate and acceleration sensor.

(1) Turn the power switch off.

(2) Check that the steering wheel is centered.

(3) Check that the shift lever is in P.

NOTICE:

DTCs C1210 (Zero Point Calibration of Yaw Rate Sensor Undone) and C1336 (Zero Point Calibration of Acceleration Sensor Undone) will be stored if the shift lever not in P.

(4) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(5) Turn the power switch on (IG).

(6) Turn the Techstream on.

(7) Switch the skid control ECU (brake booster with master cylinder assembly) to Test Mode using the Techstream. Enter the following menus: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRAC / Utility / Test Mode.

Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC > Utility

Tester Display

Test Mode

(8) After Test Mode has been entered, keep the vehicle stationary on a level surface for 5 seconds or more.

HINT:

Do not exit Test Mode within 5 seconds of entering Test Mode. If Test Mode is exited within 5 seconds of entering Test Mode, DTC U1104 may be stored. If DTC U1104 is output after exiting Test Mode, enter Test Mode again, wait at least 5 seconds, then recheck for DTCs.

(9) Check that the ABS warning, brake warning / yellow (minor malfunction) and slip indicator lights come on for several seconds and then blink in the Test Mode pattern.

NOTICE:

  • If Test Mode is entered with the shift lever not in P, the yaw rate and acceleration sensor zero point calibration will not be completed and a DTC will be stored.
  • If a yaw rate and acceleration sensor zero point calibration not complete DTC is output, clear the data stored during the previous yaw rate and acceleration sensor zero point calibration and perform the calibration again.

HINT:

  • Zero point calibration is performed only once after the system enters Test Mode.
  • After the zero point calibration is complete, the slip indicator light indicates that the system is in Test Mode (blinks at 0.25 second intervals).

(10) Turn the power switch off and disconnect the Techstream.
